Hire Our Facilities
To view our great facilities please contact Mrs J. Hayman on 01736 352152. We look forward to welcoming you!
Please note that our evening and weekend lets are not directly associated with the school, but to see what some of our regular hirers have to say about their groups keep scrolling.
A Cappella Choir
A Cappella is a mixed voice choir that concentrates on vocal music from the Renaissance (although not exclusively) singing both secular and sacred music in English as well as other foreign languages. It is open to anyone. Being able to read music is helpful. We meet fortnightly on Saturday mornings, with the occasional extra rehearsal where necessary.
The current membership subscription is £10 per term. We normally give perhaps three local concerts a year and are very happy to share these with other groups or soloists. Choir members are encouraged to buy their own music. Our primary aim is to enjoy singing music for mixed voices - part songs, anthems, madrigals etc. - and then sharing these with our audiences.
For further information, please contact Nick Wetherall on 01736 368887 or by email at nick.4epnewlyn@gmail.com
Penzance Choral Society
Penzance Choral Society meet every Friday from January to mid May and then again from September to the beginning of December.
Our subscription is £50 for the year and this includes all music that we use. We give two concerts, in May and December (the May one being with a full orchestra) and these are in St Mary’s Church, Chapel Street, Penzance. We usually perform the major works such as Verdi Requiem and Dream of Gerontious by Elgar.
New members are always welcome. It is not necessary to have the ability to read music (as long as there is a willingness to do homework!) and rehearsals are great fun. At the moment we have approximately 80 members but we still have room for more.
Penzance Orchestral Society
Penzance Orchestral Society is limited in who it can admit simply because, as a symphony orchestra, it only requires certain numbers of certain instruments, eg. four horns, two flutes, three trombones etc. However we are always very happy to hear from any player of grade five standard and above who think they would like to join us as, even when we can’t fit them in immediately, there are often vacancies when people move away etc. In particular we are always happy to hear from violinists, of which we usually have a shortage, harpists (of which we have none) and trombone players, who are often hard to pin down!
Anyone with Grade 5 standard or above on any orchestral instrument are welcome to apply and harpists and violinists would be especially welcome!
Our current membership is £30 a year.
