A group of Year 7 girls attended workshops at Truro High School on Friday, led by Girls on Track UK, alongside industry experts from the British Touring Car Championships, Falmouth University, Enovation Consulting, and more. The day was designed to inspire the next generation of female engineers and motorsport professionals.
The girls took part in a series of engaging activities, including testing their reaction times, simulating a Formula 1 pit stop environment, practising CPR, bandaging wounds, and building and coding their own LEGO Formula 1 cars. Inclusion Ambassadors Louise Goodman and Cristiana Pace were also present, leading sessions on presenting and sustainability. The girls ran their own mini media campaign and explored the importance of environmental sustainability in motorsport.
The day was a huge success, and the students left feeling inspired and motivated to explore careers in motorsport.

HUGE congratulations to Jack on the completion of his 12 hour Drumathon yesterday! What an incredible day it was, so many highlights, so much support, an all round huge success! Jack even received a message of support and well wishes from the drummer from band The Kooks!
The total money raised for Jacks selected charities is now over £3000 and rising! What an incredible act of kindness and wonderful achievement, we are so proud of you. Thank you to everyone who has donated.
As well as being interviewed throughout the day yesterday for BBC Radio Cornwall, Jack has been invited to appear on TV today to talk about his story. He has been taking it all in his stride and we are blown away by his confidence in front of a microphone! Go smash it Jack!

The support for Jack today has been amazing! The student ensembles playing alongside Jack throughout the day have been absolutely brilliant. The backing from Jack's fellow students has certainly kept the energy going throughout the day. With cake sales running at break and lunchtime to raise more funds for Jack's chosen Cancer Support Charities we are so close to his target now! Just four more hours Jack! You've got this!

Last week, our Year 9 Bronze DofE participants undertook navigation training in preparation for the upcoming expeditions. Eager to get outdoors, participants faced some muddy stretches along footpaths and a biting northerly wind in conquering their first summit together as a team. Having demonstrated the appropriate navigation skills, teams can now look forward to attempting an independent journey on the practice expedition.

A wonderful exhibition is currently on show in the Penlee House Gallery & Museum featuring work from some of our students.
Students from Years 7-10 joined the team at Penlee House for a series of after school workshops led by local artist Ben Cook. Ben’s work examines the landscape of West Penwith through the eyes of a surfer, with a focus on the environmental challenges it faces. Taking inspiration from the collection of vintage Great Western Railway and British Railways posters at Penlee House, our students were asked to re-imagine the images through the lens of climate change. They created their own contemporary versions of the posters, which, express how they feel about the future of our local landscape.
Some fantastic outcomes and it is just lovely seeing them on display in the gallery! Be sure to take a visit and see them for yourselves.

Our under 13 boys’ hockey team, delivered a strong performance in their county tournament last week. Securing wins against three different schools they progressed to the semi-finals. They fought hard but just missed out on making it to the final. Well done boys you should be so proud, a great effort from a talented squad with a bright future!

Our Year 8 football team recently played in the first round of the County Cup and took a 4-0 lead into half time!
Marley scoring twice, Kaelan and Toby with a goal each. The opposing team struck back in the second half with two long-range efforts but another goal from Marley, completing his hattrick, ensured HDS’ progress into the next round. What an exciting game!
Well done boys, we look forward to hearing how you get on in the next round.

An inspiring and cultural morning was had by our Year 10 Textiles students, who recently visited the Penzance Exchange Gallery for a private viewing of their Social Fabric exhibition.
Social Fabric is an exhibition of textile-based art, presenting the work of contemporary female artists whose practices revalue old wisdoms and techniques using traditional textile skills with fresh perspectives.
The students considered how the pieces were made, having recently learnt many of the techniques used by the artists during their textiles lessons. The scale of the work was impressive, and the content created many thought provoking discussions about the concept of the work.

On Monday our Year 7 boys WON the Penwith indoor cricket tournament! The boys performed unbelievably well, they worked together as a team and all played a part in the success.
Our captain, Archie, bowled and batted superbly, retiring on 20 a couple of times. Thomas took some crucial wickets and scored some crucial runs. Will showed great understanding of the indoor game as well retiring at 20 runs. Ace was an ‘ace’ wicket keeper throughout and, not to be forgotten, Jamie and Corey who fielded brilliantly taking some fantastic catches. What a team!
The final game could not have been closer with it going down to the last ball, forcing a super over, where yet again the winning runs were scored on the last ball! The boys will now represent HDS at Truro College going up against fellow schools from around the county. Well done boys and good luck!
