Humphry Davy School 6 Mar 2025 We had an amazing day today for World Book Day! Some brilliant costumes could be spotted as you walked around the school, we always love guessing who everyone is meant to be! As well as amazing costumes, this year's World Book Day saw our classrooms transformed into gateways to some of literature's most iconic worlds. As part of our Door Decorating Competition, students were challenged to design the inside of their classroom doors inspired by a chosen book – and they certainly delivered. From The Hungry Caterpillar to The Secret Garden, each door showcased creativity, teamwork, and a clear love of reading. The attention to detail was incredible, with designs featuring everything from hand-drawn characters to 3D props and powerful quotes. Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of the winning door!

Humphry Davy School 5 Mar 2025 Gool Peran Lowan everyone! What a proud moment for the Humphry Davy musicians today as they took part in the annual St Piran’s Day parade in Penzance. Our school were represented by our Year 7 saxophone program, music scholars, wind band and of course, Mr Bosworth leading on the big bass drum. For Jemima one of our Year 11 music scholars this was her last and 10th parade! Well done Jemima!

Humphry Davy School 5 Mar 2025 The Year 10 boys football team were recently in cup action. The team played some excellent football throughout with stand out performances coming from Bobby, Kitto and Eli. A very exciting match with lots of action! Well done boys!

Humphry Davy School 4 Mar 2025 Our Year 7 girls participated in an indoor cricket tournament recently. There were some notable moments throughout the games. One from student Ella, who showed off some excellent bowling skills. Student Sadie, also took a fantastic catch and in one of the games retired at 20! The attitude from the girls was brilliant throughout and they had a great day. We can't wait to see how they develop over their time here at HDS! Well done everyone.

Humphry Davy School 3 Mar 2025 On Friday last week, our silver DofE teams continued their training with a day hike. With plenty of sunshine and clear skies, the teams reached the summit of both Godolphin and Tregonning Hill and were able to enjoy the views that overlook Mount’s Bay. The teams had a great time developing their micro navigation skills in preparation for their next challenge on their Practice Expedition.

Humphry Davy School 28 Feb 2025 Year 9 students visited Newlyn Art Gallery today to view their social fabric exhibition and take part in producing their own ‘craftivism’ banner combining craft and activism. The exhibition really got everyone thinking. Working with local artists and makers they produced some amazing outcomes which all came together as a final banner with their chosen slogan, ‘Slay the Day Away’! Thank you to Newlyn Art Gallery for having us, we had a brilliant day!

Humphry Davy School 27 Feb 2025 This term, Year 8 Drama students have been diving deep into the world of theatre genres, exploring a range of exciting techniques and styles. One highlight has been their exploration of Frantic Assembly and Chair Duets – an incredibly engaging, non-naturalistic style of theatre.

Humphry Davy School 26 Feb 2025 Our Year 9 3D Design students had an amazing time at Truro and Penwith College today, exploring what A Level 3D Design has to offer! From architectural modelling to AI-generated future architecture, they got hands-on with creativity and design. Thinking about taking 3D Design at GCSE? Humphry Davy School 26 Feb 2025 On Monday our Year 10 GCSE music students were treated to an amazing performance and workshop from the Elmore Quartet. A prize winning group of professional classical musicians performed a brief repertoire linked to the Concerto Through Time Area of Study. This was then followed up with composition workshops and final performances from the students. Thanks to Jax and Tim at Music Ability for helping set up this opportunity.

Humphry Davy School 14 Feb 2025 A group of Year 7 girls attended workshops at Truro High School on Friday, led by Girls on Track UK, alongside industry experts from the British Touring Car Championships, Falmouth University, Enovation Consulting, and more. The day was designed to inspire the next generation of female engineers and motorsport professionals. The girls took part in a series of engaging activities, including testing their reaction times, simulating a Formula 1 pit stop environment, practising CPR, bandaging wounds, and building and coding their own LEGO Formula 1 cars. Inclusion Ambassadors Louise Goodman and Cristiana Pace were also present, leading sessions on presenting and sustainability. The girls ran their own mini media campaign and explored the importance of environmental sustainability in motorsport. The day was a huge success, and the students left feeling inspired and motivated to explore careers in motorsport.

Humphry Davy School 13 Feb 2025 HUGE congratulations to Jack on the completion of his 12 hour Drumathon yesterday! What an incredible day it was, so many highlights, so much support, an all round huge success! Jack even received a message of support and well wishes from the drummer from band The Kooks! The total money raised for Jacks selected charities is now over £3000 and rising! What an incredible act of kindness and wonderful achievement, we are so proud of you. Thank you to everyone who has donated. As well as being interviewed throughout the day yesterday for BBC Radio Cornwall, Jack has been invited to appear on TV today to talk about his story. He has been taking it all in his stride and we are blown away by his confidence in front of a microphone! The backing from Jack's fellow students has certainly kept the energy going throughout the day. Humphry Davy School 11 Feb 2025 Last week, our Year 9 Bronze DofE participants undertook navigation training in preparation for the upcoming expeditions. Eager to get outdoors, participants faced some muddy stretches along footpaths and a biting northerly wind in conquering their first summit together as a team. Having demonstrated the appropriate navigation skills, teams can now look forward to attempting an independent journey on the practice expedition.
