Examination Results 2024

Fantastic opportunities await the Humphry Davy Class of 2024 after GCSE Results celebration!

Congratulations to the amazing 2024 Humphry Davy School Year 11 students!

‘A’ Levels, ‘T’ Levels, the International Baccalaureate, BTECs, NCERTS and Apprenticeships are just some of the routes now being pursued from September after securing strong foundations in their GCSEs.

It is one of the great privileges of being headteacher to share in the magical moment of opening GCSE result envelopes and watching anxious expressions morph into smiles and joy and again this year there is much to celebrate!

We continue to nurture the unique talents of every individual student at HDS with over 37% of all students achieving a top grade 7-9 (old grade A/A*) in at least one subject.

There were some tremendous individual student achievements and special mention to Olive, Milly, Amelie, Martha, Tess and Helena who all achieved the equivalent of the old A*/A grades across the board in all their GCSEs. (That is 54 top grades between them!) Not wanting to be outdone by the girls, Jago, Jet, Cormack, Louis, Jack, Dylan and Frankie achieved the equivalent of 48 top grades. From their respective starting points from primary school at Key Stage 2: Milo, Jonny, Lili and Julia’s progress was also exceptional! Just reward for hard work and maintaining a positive attitude.

Initial analysis shows over a quarter of all grades in Biology, Chemistry, Health and Social Care, Music, Physics, Spanish and Further Maths were at grade 7 (old grade A/A*) and even with the largest cohort of students for many years, over half of all grades in 12 separate core subjects were what the DfE define as ‘strong’ GCSE passes. The creative and performing arts are central to the curriculum offer at HDS and whilst schools across the country continue to experience a significant fall in the number of entries in Music, Drama, Art and Design, we continue to see numbers grow.

Along their HDS journey, Year 11 students achieved local and national recognition and success in music and the arts, debating, science, technology, engineering and mathematics competitions, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and a wide range of sports. We are proud of the wonderful young adults and superb role models they have become for our younger students and the wider Penzance community.

My sincere thanks to the dedicated and experienced team of staff here at HDS who make it all possible.

Parents and carers have every right to be proud of their children and my thanks go to you all for your wonderful support over the years. On behalf of the Governors and staff at Humphry Davy School, I would like to wish all our students ‘Good Luck!’ and continued success as they move on to the next stage of their education and careers. We look forward to hearing stories of your future achievements!

Our focus now is firmly on ensuring the success of future year groups.

My message to new Year 7 students starting in September and to any prospective parents, is that you can be confident and reassured from GCSE results over the years that hard work, determination and the support of our fantastic, dedicated and talented team of staff here at HDS will ensure children of all abilities are well placed to achieve their dreams and fulfil their future ambitions.
