The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Posted on: 20/05/2022Silver Award
Congratulations to the 21 Year 10 students who successfully completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s practice expedition.
Even with tired legs and aching feet, it is clear that everyone enjoyed their weekend of walking and camping out, enjoying culinary delights such as ‘fried Soreen loaf’ and being awoken by the wildlife!
There is a strong bond between all the groups who showed great determination and resilience. They are now well prepared for whatever Bodmin Moor throws at them for their full expedition later this term. We look forward to hearing how you get on!
Bronze Award
Our Bronze Award students have now completed their training in first aid, map reading, putting up tents and using the trangias to cook super noodles. They have also done their first evening map reading walk.
Well done to everyone involved! HDS facilitated a record number of Bronze participants this year and it was fantastic to see our dedicated staff being formally recognised for the excellent work they all do when we received our re-accreditation this year!
The DofE award scheme is a truly enriching extra-curricular activity. With an abundance of skills learned and memories made our students will most definitely draw upon this invaluable experience in the future.
