It was a pleasure to welcome back the Class of 2024 last night. It was a great night spent celebrating their time at HDS. With an entertaining address from guest speaker Trevelyan Worth, it was a pleasure to watch the students receive their special awards; a celebration of their success at HDS. Thank you to everyone who attended, it was lovely to see you all!

Say 'hello' to this year’s class of HDS Music Scholars! The audition process was an excellent showcase of the talent we have here at Humphry Davy School and left the judges with some extremely difficult decisions to make. Well done to our 10 Music Scholars who will act as representatives for all the amazing music happening at HDS this year. Look out for them at our various performances over the academic year!

Lost and Found: Former Student Reunited with 1975 Exercise Book Discovered in School Drawer!
In a heartwarming twist of fate, a piece of school history has been returned to its rightful owner after nearly five decades. An exercise book, with work dated in 1975 was recently unearthed at Humphry Davy School, tucked in the back of a drawer in Room 31. The book, filled with neat handwriting and beautiful labelled sketches, belonged to then student Sean Morris.
The book was found by our current history teacher, Mr Morgan, who was organising his classroom over half term. Among faded paper and outdated textbooks, he found the exercise book - its beige cover worn but still intact, with "Sean Morris, Roman Studies, 2P" written on the front in blue ink.
"I could tell this wasn't just any exercise book," Mr Morgan said, "It was filled with such dedication and detail that I felt it deserved to be returned."
With the help of the Facebook group ‘Humphry Davy Grammar School for boys and girls’ our Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Oliver, managed to track down Sean, who still lives close by. Many of the alumni involved in tracking Sean down commented that he was surely in trouble or detention for his homework being this late!!
Sean was stunned to be contacted and commented, "slightly worried by your 'beautifully presented' comment regarding the book though, and I'm beginning to wonder if my name has somehow appeared on the front of somebody else's exercise book!"
In a small gathering arranged by Mrs Oliver, Sean returned to Humphry Davy School on Wednesday 13th November, where he was presented with his long-lost exercise book! Sean was thrilled to see his youthful handwriting and even some old assessments he had forgotten about.
For Sean, the rediscovered exercise book and tour of the school brought back vivid memories of his teenage years, and especially his fond memories of being in ‘P’ form (for Penzance).
"I had a fantastic morning trying to recall all the different rooms, blocks, stories and teachers. There were certainly a few 'ghost faces' appearing in my head during our walk-around!", said Sean, who added, "I was so very impressed with the sheer enthusiasm and love for the school and the students that you and all the staff we met displayed."
The story of Sean’s exercise book has touched not only him and the school staff but also current and past students. "It's like a glimpse into the past," said one student. "It reminds us that our time here matters and that maybe one day, someone will find our things and remember us too."
The discovery has also sparked a new trend of digging through the school's storage cupboards in search of other artefacts! Furthermore, we are now keen to look at opening up our school next year so more former students can take a walk down memory lane and share their memories.

We will remember them.
The HDS community fell silent at 11am today to remember those who have served and who continue to serve.
Following a short service in the Gallery, a wreath was laid by a group of students at our memorial. The carved oak memorial that stands tall in our Gallery ensures that the bravery and sacrifice of those HDS students from the past will never be forgotten.
The two minute silence was impeccably observed and, with the Last Post echoing around our school grounds for all to hear, we remembered.
A big thank you to student Isaac and Mr Street for performing this poignant theme so beautifully.

Our Year 7 rugby team recently took part in the annual West Cornwall festival at Richard Lander School in Truro. The players started with a win against Pool Academy followed by a draw with St Ives School. Victories against Richard Lander and Hayle then followed with Will and Thomas scoring some excellent tries throughout. Well done to all of the players involved.

Yesterday our Morocco students visited a rock archway at Legzira beach. Our surfers were wowed by the geographical formations; naturally formed by decades of erosion. Whilst on the beach they also enjoyed camel rides across the sand.
After spending the afternoon at the local beach enjoying their last surf session in Morocco, our surfers retuned to the villas for a traditional Moroccan evening of dancing and local food.
A fabulous day was had by all!

On Sunday, our Morocco surf students took a break from surfing and visited the ancient town of Tiznit. The markets were a sight to behold and the students enjoyed practicing their bartering skills. The afternoon was spent back at the beach before they headed back for dinner.

After a very long journey, our surfers have arrived in Morocco for 6 jam-packed days of surfing and sightseeing.
Staying in privately owned villas (less than 500 metres away from some of the world's most consistent, clean and empty waves), our annual surf trip is an amazing opportunity for our students to experience the unique cultural diversity and sense of community in the traditional Berber fishing village of Mirleft.
On Wednesday evening, after checking in to their villas, they had just enough time to catch the waves for a sunset surf!
Yesterday, after an 8.15am wake up call, our students enjoyed breakfast at the villa before travelling to Plage Sauvage beach for their morning surf session. After lunch, they spent the afternoon in the sea...working up an appetite for their evening meal.
With a dip in the swimming pool before bed, everyone certainly slept well after a busy day at the beach!
Be sure to check back for further updates.
